Sadly, the Radeon 6730 did not perform at all in 3D. We used R9 290s way back when and have been wanting a shiny new R9 295 video card for AutoCAD for a long time, so we were actually very disappointed to see how bad it performed. We still have faith in AMD, but this was somewhat of a shock.

On the CPU side, the Intel platform performed very well. There are some minor fluctuations, and the tenth place run was almost twice the benchmark score of the first place run, which is not amazingly consistent, but it still shows a very definite upward trend in CPU performance. Once again, this would not be possible without the blazing fast Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Before we begin, here are some reminders. First, don’t forget to turn on the “Show Errors” option in the video settings section. (You’ll want to turn that off in 3D benchmarks since it becomes a huge performance hog). We also recommend that you enable the “ fast command line” option in the video settings, as doing so will stream line the error logging during AutoCAD startup. Finally, make sure that you are using the absolute latest version of vcrun2015.dll in the Game Launcher.

The first drawing that we ran is a house. This was pretty easy to figure out since it has so few complicated features in it and you can clearly see the difference between the performance of the CPU and GPU. The biggest differences are in the top three positions, and there, you can see that the Intel platform (middle three) dominates the others.

With a fourth-place score still over 400, the Intel platform was still winning handily (as it should be, since it was using the fastest CPU), but after that it tapers off a bit. The next two draws are apps, measuring the same things, except with a lot of 3D objects. Because these benchmarks are just about CAD, and CAD doesn’t generally make use of the GPU, we see more of a flat performance for the Intel platform. d2c66b5586
